Orthdontics Treatment
Our philosophy is simple: The sooner we recognize an orthodontic problem,
the easier and more successfully we can treat it.
You can begin orthodontic treatment when you’re 8 or 80. Early diagnosis
by your orthodontist is important, though Dr.
Ensley recommends an initial
orthodontic exam by the age of eight to benchmark for the future and identify
possible risks. Care
for children is generally started when most permanent
teeth are in place, usually at age eleven or twelve.
More and more, adults are turning to orthodontia for both health and cosmetic
reasons. Using discreet and flexible treatments, such as the Invisalign® system,
you can achieve a healthier smile without the metal wires and bands and generally
in less time than conventional treatments.

About Dr. Ensley
Dr. Ensley is a Portland area native and graduated cum laude from
Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Dental School in
1989. He conducted his general dentistry residency at St. Joseph's
Hospital in Denver, Colorado. After completing his orthodontic
residency at OHSU in 1991, Dr. Ensley launched Ensley Orthodontics.
Dr. Ensley invests three times the required hours in special courses
and training such as Damon™ Bracket mechanics, efficiencies
in orthodontics, advanced aesthetics, occlusion courses and other
continuing education. He also participates in regional and local
orthodontic study groups and boards. Dr. Ensley is an expert in
utilizing the Invisalign® system and trains other dental professionals
in its use.

Service Spotlight: Invisalign®
If you're looking for an alternative to traditional braces, the Invisalign system may be a good choice for you.
Ensley Orthodontics offers deep experience in and is recognized
as an Invisalign Premier Provider. Invisalign is a series of removable,
clear, custom-fitted aligners that gradually reposition your teeth.
Your aligners are created based on special impressions of your
teeth, using 3-D computer imaging technology. With Invisalign,
most people won’t notice you’re in orthodontic treatment
and you can remove the aligners for special events, eating and
brushing. Here’s how Invisalign works:
- No metal wires or bands
- Remove aligners to eat, brush
and floss
- Change aligners every two weeks
- Your teeth move gradually
- Progress checks every six weeks
- You’ll often see result in less time than conventional
treatments
Not everyone makes a good candidate for Invisalign. Invisalign
works best for people with moderate crowding or extra space, and
you must have your second molars (12-year molars). Invisalign usually
costs about the same amount as traditional braces.
Service Spotlight: Damon System©
Also referred to as speed braces or self-ligating brackets, Damon
Brackets make it easier to keep your teeth clean and increase your
comfort.
The latest version of Damon Brackets uses a unique, self-ligating
bracket system. Think of it as a "sliding door." The
sliding door system uses low-force wires with brackets that allow
the wire to slide back and forth, eliminating the need for the
ligatures (little rubber bands) that traditional braces for teeth
use to hold wires in place. In addition to being more efficient
than traditional braces, this advancement means fewer adjustments
and office visits. Plus, Damon Brackets are smaller than traditional
orthodontic brackets, so not as much food gets trapped around them!

first thing you'll notice when you step into our office is the
lively environment, conversation and laughter. “Wait a minute!,” you’ll
think to yourself. “This isn’t the orthodontist torture
chamber that Sally described when she had her braces. And who's
that friendly woman greeting everyone…by name?”
It's true! We break the mold of the stereotypical orthodontic
office. We actually do everything we can to make you comfortable,
from providing both private and semi-private clinical rooms to
a big-screen TV and video games. And we’re definitely kid-friendly.
There’s a bathroom with a changing station and a fully equipped
play area, complete with a sand-table, toys and books for your
little ones.
You’ll never have to worry about brushing at school or work
before an appointment because you can use the brushing station
when you arrive. Plus, we remove your wires at every regularly
scheduled appointment so that you can do a thorough brushing at
the station each time you visit.
