What makes The Beaverton Business Network different from other online directories?
First, The Beaverton Business Network highly localized. That is, it focuses exclusively on businesses that are based in or serve a large volume of clients in Beaverton, Oregon. So from a local search perspective, you’ll gain a large benefit. Second, it goes beyond simply a name, address and phone number. You’ll have all those items included, of course, but in addition to your business web site you’ll also be able to link to all of your social network pages, blogs, and profile pages on association sites. Third, and most importantly, your listing in the Network provides you with an opportunity to post a keyword rich, search engine optimized page (or pages) that highlight the details of your business and offerings. The Network will develop a tailored page title and description for your listing. This listing will provide an important source of legitimate one-way inbound links for your sites and pages. Most other directory sites fall short in these areas.

I've got a page on Nodd's Neighborhood and the Yellow Pages online - why do I need a page on The Beaverton Business Network?
Plain and simply, the more inbound links you have from legitimate places and directories, the better off you'll be with the search engines and the easier it will be for people to find you. Think of it as Starbucks. The more locations, the more people find and get to know them. Starbucks places stores where people are likely to go - i.e. next to Barnes & Noble, inside the theater, etc. Listing in The Beaverton Business Network is the same concept. When people come to the web looking for Beaverton based businesses and services, you want to be in as many places as possible that will lead them to you. And as the Network grows over time, so will its stature in the search engines. The larger the site the better and the engines love directories that provide rich content.

Beyond the need to be represented in as many places as possible, both directories offer a level of localized information. The Yellow Pages, however end at providing contact information and a map if you've added that feature. And the Yellow Pages doesn't really offer unique pages for your business so you miss out on some search engine opportunities. Nodd's does offer similar opportunities to what the Network offers for providing information about your business. The Network offers more highly optimized content for search engines - as part of the set up you recieve keyword research and editing/advice on incorporating it into your content, along with tailored page title and description tags. And the Network allows you to point to any social network, directories, blogs, etc. that you choose to. Because of that, you can point to your Nodd's listing (or your LinkedIn, association, blog, etc.) so it can also help boost the relevance of that page as well.

How does The Beaverton Business Network optimize my listing?
First, we’ll work with you to identify keywords based on your existing web site content. We’ll incorporate those into your title and description tags. These are HTML tags. Your title tag appears in the uppermost blue bar (above the File, Edit View, etc. toolbar) of your browser. The text in the description tag appears in search engine results. It’s the blurb that appears right under the blue line in the results. Both are primary targets for search engines.

Next we’ll incorporate your keywords into the content on your listing page. If we’re writing the copy we’ll simply work the keywords and phrases in. If you’re providing the copy, we’ll make recommendations for edits so that they’ll be included. We’ll also make recommendations about contextual links – links that are within the body of the copy – that could link to your site.

How can I help my business partners or retailers I use with my listing?
At the bottom of each listing is a Recommendations section. You’ll provide a list of people and businesses you recommend and build in links to them. If they’re in the Network, we’ll link to their pages within the directory. If not, we’ll point to their web site.
